چکیده

Microbubble technologies have recently gained acceptance as radiological molecular imaging or perfusion agents. These intravenous ultrasound contrast agents consist of gasfilled microspheres stabilized by a ‘shell’ layer which interfaces with a surrounding solvent pool. Development in the form of encapsulation with complex biocompatible polymer shell consisting of proteins, lipids and surfactants has improved their stability and half-life significantly. These shell modifications have optimised the mechanical index of microbubbles, making them more resistant to compression rather than expansion.

Influence of injection site, microvascular pressure and ultrasound variables on microbubble-mediated delivery of microspheres to muscle.

OBJECTIVES Our objective was to test the hypothesis that the ultrasound pulsing interval (PI), microbubble injection site and microvascular pressure significantly influence the transport of 100-nm microspheres to muscle through extravasation sites created by the destruction of microbubbles with ultrasound. BACKGROUND Microbubbles show promise as targeted drug and gene delivery agents; however...

Superharmonic microbubble Doppler effect in ultrasound therapy

The introduction of microbubbles in focused ultrasound therapies has enabled a diverse range of non-invasive technologies: sonoporation to deliver drugs into cells, sonothrombolysis to dissolve blood clots, and blood-brain barrier opening to deliver drugs into the brain. Current methods for passively monitoring the microbubble dynamics responsible for these therapeutic effects can identify the ...

Combined ultrasound and MR imaging to guide focused ultrasound therapies in the brain.

Several emerging therapies with potential for use in the brain, harness effects produced by acoustic cavitation--the interaction between ultrasound and microbubbles either generated during sonication or introduced into the vasculature. Systems developed for transcranial MRI-guided focused ultrasound (MRgFUS) thermal ablation can enable their clinical translation, but methods for real-time monit...

Optimization of ultrasound parameters for cardiac gene delivery of adenoviral or plasmid deoxyribonucleic acid by ultrasound-targeted microbubble destruction.

OBJECTIVES This study was undertaken to optimize echocardiographic parameters for successful gene delivery to the heart and to extend the method from adenoviral to plasmid deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA). BACKGROUND We have previously shown that ultrasound-targeted microbubble destruction can direct tissue expression of adenoviral transgenes to the heart. The optimal echocardiographic parameters ...

Modeling and investigating the effect of ultrasound waves pressure on the microbubble oscillation dynamics in microvessels containing an incompressible fluid (Research Article)

Understanding the dynamics of microbubble oscillation in an elastic microvessel is important for the safe and effective applications of ultrasound contrast agents in imaging and therapy. Numerical simulations based on 2D finite element model are performed to investigate the effect of acoustic parameters such as pressure and frequency on the dynamic interaction of the fluid-blood-vessel system. ...
